The Hattons Solicitors National Conference League wishes to pay tribute to Tom Smith a former President of the Rugby Football League whose death was announced last week.

Tom joined the National Conference League's Management Committee during the 1994/95 season as one of the appointees of the RFL with Roy Waudby who acted as Treasurer. Both Tom and Roy at the time were Directors of the RFL.

During the next two and a half years Tom did attend a number of Management meetings. He also presented the winners cheque at the National Conference League's Annual Dinner at the Willows in season 1995/96

Tom acted as our liaison with the RFL Board where he always presented the National Conference League in a positive manner and played a part in securing the revision to the financial support to change the prize money into club grants.

Tom was a tremendous servant to the game not just from the professional but also as a avid supporter of the grass roots of the game He was proud of his involvement with the National Conference League.

He was a true gentleman and his passing was a very sad occasion.
